I'll be braving the cold at the Brockley Christmas Market tomorrow where I'm sharing a stall with my friend Tina McGrane, selling our handmade Christmas gifts. So if you're a SE Londoner come along and take a look, there will be 40 stalls (just outside Brockley rail station) and plenty of entertainment (Santa will be making an appearance!), it's the perfect way to get in the festive spirit!

Forest Fest, Saturday 2 July

I'm sharing a stall this Saturday with my friend Vicky Scott at a local fair, Forest Fest, in Forest Hill. It's a great event, a mix of live music, delicious food and a craft fair. Over 4000 people attended last year so looking forward to a busy day...fingers crossed the sun will shine for us!

Fox Fest and Brockwell Lido

London was blessed with amazing weather for the Royal Wedding/May Day Bank Holiday weekend and luckily I was able to spend most of it out in the sun.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons were spent with my friend Vicky Scott at the craft fair in the beer garden of the Fox & Firkin in Lewisham, meeting lots of lovely people and selling our wares. There was live music to entertain us and two friendly pub cats to keep us company.

On Sunday morning I visited Brockwell Lido for their Modern Movement event - lots of gorgeous mid century furniture dealers set up around the pool. And amazingly there were a few people braving the unheated water!

Furniture Porn and an American Illustrator

Spent the morning at Dulwich College being wowed by the amazing furniture at the Mid Century Modern fair. So much temptation. We found the perfect coffee table only to be told that it had just sold :( Better luck next time!

To cheer ourselves up we then visited Dulwich Picture Gallery to see the first ever exhibition in the UK of celebrated American Illustrator Norman Rockwell. Such a talented artist! All 323 of his Saturday Evening Post covers, which appeared between 1916 and 1963, are displayed alongside some of the original artworks so its a great bit of social history too. I urge anyone interested in illustration to get down there and see the exhibition before it closes on 27th March.

Brockley Christmas Market

I'm taking part in the Brockley Christmas Market, south east London, for the first time this year on Saturday 11th December, with my friend and fellow Illustrator Vicky Scott. As I'm local to the area I'm really looking forward to meeting some of my neighbours and the other stall holders and getting into the Christmas spirit. It sounds like a lot of fun - love the flyer!

Faircharm Fair

I'll be at the Faircharm Fair this weekend, run by Creekside Artists, selling limited edition prints, Christmas cards and little gifts. The event is part of Gifted with 15 venues open in Deptford over this weekend from the excellent Cockpit Arts designer maker studios to exhibitions, cultural shops and artists studios. Come along and take a look if you are free.

Paediatric Nursing

This image was created for RCN Publishing to illustrate an article that described how valuable diaries can be for research projects. Parents of disabled children are asked to write a diary to describe their experiences of caring for their child which are then used for analysis. I was asked to show a mother writing her diary in a home setting.

Hudson Fuggle

I've just completed a double page illustration for design agency Hudson Fuggle. The commission was for Team London Bridge, an organisation that aims to 'make London Bridge a world-class business district and visitor destination that is better managed, cared-for and connected'.

Hudson Fuggle were tasked to design a proposal document titled 'A BID for Renewal' to outline the work Team London Bridge have successfully achieved in their 5 year term and what they would do if voted in for 2011 - 2016.

I was asked to create a scene that represents the area and showcases the improvements that Team London Bridge pledge to make in the future. It focuses on the benefit that businesses will enjoy along with community projects and promotion of the area to tourists.

It has been a great project to be part of and good luck to Team London Bridge in their quest for re-election!

Mail Me Art Exhibition

Here's some pictures from the private view of Mail Me Art which took place on Friday 30th July at the Red Gate Gallery, London.

This is a great project that asked people all over the world to mail their art to the organisers and be part of an exhibition and accompanying book which is due out very soon. There was a huge range of work on display, in shape, style and medium. Everyone really had fun with the idea. And some survived the postal system better than others! My own image was a postcard sized collage and line drawing, it was a bit smudged and lost a gem on the way but did pretty well!

Here's my submission for Drawgasmic, a great project taking place in America which invites artists from all over the world to send in a piece of work in their specified format which will form part of an exhibition and book later this year.

I chose to draw a London cinema as I love the ornate buildings that are dotted across the capital, though most are now re-purposed as churches, gig venues or bingo halls. The Ritzy in Brixton is still going strong and looking fabulous! See my image online here and take a look at their map showing where all the submissions have come from around the globe!

The exhibition is set to take place on 10 July at 2720 / Art Dimensions Gallery, 2720 Cherokee Street, St. Louis, MO 63118.

Crystal Palace Antiques & Modern

I recently visited this wonderful antiques warehouse which is set over four floors. So much to see, great for inspiration and of course a chance to find a little something to add to your home.

The basement is full of 20th century pieces supplied by Design of Modernity where I discovered I have a love for '60s Danish design, all a bit out of my price range sadly! I highly recommend a visit, and Crystal Palace is really easy to get to now that it's part of the London Underground network.

Brockley Max - Tea Leaf Arts

The Brockley Max arts festival is currently on in south east London showcasing a wide variety of artists and media. The area near where I live - Brockley, Crofton Park and Ladywell - has a really creative community and this annual event is organised to get everyone involved and excited about the arts.

I have a piece of work showing at Tea Leaf Arts, an artist-led exhibition space on Endwell Road. The exhibition is on until 12 June so pop in and have a look if you're in the area. Cycling in London

Here's my submission to the Transport for London / AOI competition to help promote cycling in London. There will be an exhibition of the top 50 entries (from over 1000!) at the London Transport Museum this summer so fingers crossed.

When I was coming up with ideas the Southbank came to mind as it has such wonderful views of London. It's also a great way to explore the city as it stretches so far and is traffic free (apart from the tourists of course!). Plus there are so many attractions along the way its easy to find an excuse to stop and have a rest.

Exhibition at Monkey Chews

I'm really excited to be showing some work alongside my friend and fellow illustrator Vicky Scott at Monkey Chews in Chalk Farm, London, from tomorrow. The private view takes place on Wednesday 10th March from 7pm-9pm - it's going to be a great night so come along for a few cocktails and live music from Bruce Williams to help us celebrate!

The title of the show is 'How very Curious...' and promises to be a visually appetising exhibition, disrupting the concepts of collage and fantasy art. I'm exhibiting some of my illustration work plus some one off screen prints. The work will be on show until 30th April.

Happy New Year! For my first blog of 2010 I'd like to show you a postcard I've just created for Mail Me Art, a great project organised by Darren Di Leito where anyone can create a piece of art on any material they like (most commonly envelopes) and post it to him. The first round resulted in an exhibition and a book so it's well worth checking out...www.mailmeart.com.

I had great fun creating my this piece using all manner of things lying around my studio for inspiration...ribbons, paper, sequins and of course fashion magazines! Let's just hope it gets through the postal system ok...

The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration

This great new book about illustration has now been published by Anova and features 3 pieces of my work, on the theme of Built Environment.

I love the architecture of London - it's a fascinating contrast to the countryside surroundings I grew up in and though I've been here for 10 years now I still find it really inspiring. Seeing these pieces in print makes me want to get out there again and do a bit of sketching!

Here are some prints I created this summer and have just got round to scanning in. It's great to get away from the computer now and again and get back to my first love! Though now I am so used to being able to touch up my mistakes in photoshop and rearrange compositions endlessly it is quite nerve-wracking stuff.

I took inspiration for these from my little nephews and a friend who has become a new Mum recently - I wanted to create something that would work well in a nursery, for boys and girls alike...and who doesn't love the zoo?!

AOI Images 33 Awards evening

This week I attended the opening of the AOI's Images 33 exhibition and was excited to see my artwork up on the wall next to many of the illustrators I most admire. The exhibition is on at London College of Communication, Elephant & Castle until 10 August. Take a look if you are in the area.

I have just heard that I have had 3 images selected for the new book by Martin Dawber (recent titles include The Big Book of Fashion Illustration and New Fashion Prints) entitled The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration. My work will feature in the Built Environment section and includes an image of the Kings Cross Scala, above. The book will feature over 350 illustrators from around the world and will be published by Anova Books in September 2009.
